From a beach bum to a hike addict. I didn’t realise hiking was growing on me so much. Lying on the beach while drinking piña colada – that always sounded like a perfect holiday to me. Who’d rather prefer to go up the hill for several hours while struggling to catch a breath? Certainly, not me! I could barely last half an hour on the treadmill! Until my recent visit to Norway where I hiked Pulpit Rock. After that, I was hooked. Determined to climb the mountain peaks wherever I travel now, I compelled this list of the best hikes in Europe.

Top Things To Do In Stavanger, Norway

Right at the start of the year, I vigorously tried to fill all the bank holiday weekends with a trip abroad. What a better way to go on vacation without taking annual leave from work. During my cheap flight search on skyscanner, Norway popped up in my top results. Stavanger? Never even heard of it! Quick, google search and straight to images. Shock! I didn’t expect to see such amazing pictures from a cheap flight destination. Mountains, fjords, and colourful streets? Sold, booked. Now, it was only a matter of time until I got on that plane and be on my way to Stavanger.

Hike to Pulpit Rock

After doing a very brief research (google images) on the things to do in Stavanger and seeing all the amazing pictures of the cliffs; I just knew I had to do them! A long weekend in Stavanger seemed like enough time for a hike or two. Preikestolen or also called the Pulpit Rock was the closest one.

A 604 meters high steep cliff formed by melting glaciers at the end of the Ice Age. Now, claimed to be one of the Norway’s most famous mountain hikes. Unsurprisingly, as it offers a truly breathtaking view over the Lysefjord. Mother nature, I bow to you.

They say the way you spend New Year’s eve is the same way you’ll spend the rest of the year. Well, I spent it abroad, in the rain. And that’s exactly how my year looked so far. Whenever I went on a trip it was raining. I assumed it will still be summer in Norway at the end of August. I was wrong. The weather forecast was against me. I knew one thing. Nothing will stop me from hiking Pulpit Rock. Rain or no rain, I set off my journey.

Why Monte-Carlo Should Be On Your List Of Places To Visit

The parties were bigger. The pace was faster, the shows were broader, the buildings were higher, the morals were looser, and the liquor was cheaper.

Monte-Carlo, the small European version of Las Vegas. The rich and famous playground. Posh casinos, expensive hotels and Ferrari’s racing on the streets. No wonder why it has been chosen as one of the locations for James Bond movies. It’s one the smallest independent states in the world, yet overflowing with wealth and glamour. They say champagne is the national drink. Chin-chin!

While it might be still poor and developing, it’s certainly trying to reinvent and show its real potential. Nonetheless, it still lacks the attention from the tourists… which is exactly why you should get there. Even one day in Skopje will prove you how beautiful the city really is!

Entering Serbia From Kosovo – Know Before You Go!

In the early 20th century, Kosovo was integrated into Serbia. Following years of conflict and war, Kosovo finally declared its independence. Eventually, it became a separate country in February 2008. However, Serbia did not recognise Kosovo’s independence. To this day, Serbia considers it to be part of their country. For those reasons, the authorities don’t recognise border crossing points to be approved ‘international’ crossing points. This causes a lot of difficulties for travellers when entering Serbia from Kosovo. If you’re thinking of visiting both countries, it’s best to plan your journey in advance.
