Ah, the city of many statutes! Of all shapes and sizes. Each one trying to tell a different story. I’ve never seen so many in one place before! Traumatised by years of war and later a catastrophic earthquake, as much as 80% of the city has been destroyed. While it might be still poor and developing, it’s certainly trying to reinvent and show its real potential. Nonetheless, it still lacks the attention from the tourists... which is exactly why you should get there, before everyone else does!
From old monasteries and churches to cobbled streets and idyllic lake. Ohrid is one of a kind! The city is known for once having 365 churches. One church for each day of the year. There are still many churches left with a mix of Ottoman and Byzantine architecture. Full of discreet charm, Ohrid makes it hard not to fall in love with. If you’re visiting Macedonia, or even the Balkans, you should put Ohrid on the list of must see places! This hidden gem has been listed as UNESCO’s World Heritage for its cultural and natural beauty. It has been under-the-radar, making it a perfect holiday location if you look to escape the crowds.
Ryanair, one of the Europe’s leading budget airlines, is currently cancelling up to 50 flights daily until the end of October. As many as 400,000 passengers across the EU could have their Ryanair flights cancelled between now until the end of October. As a regular Ryanair customer, this is really appealing. I can feel nothing but sorry for all the travellers who have been affected by this massive failure. In the past 10 years, mainly flying with Ryanair, only one of my flights have been cancelled. I was informed plenty time in advance. They offered alternative route or refund. I’ve chosen the refund. The process was quick and easy. No hassle. However, this administrative “cock up” over pilots’ holiday rotas, as Ryanair claims is the main reason, is simply atrocious. After those recent events, I’ve decided to touch on a topic of cheap airlines. In particular, are they worth it?
From a beach bum to a hike addict. I didn’t realise hiking was growing on me so much. Lying on the beach while drinking piña colada - that always sounded like a perfect holiday to me. Who’d rather prefer going up the hill for several hours while sweating buckets and struggling to catch a breath? Certainly, not me! I could barely last half an hour on the treadmill! But then, I started travelling more and discovering the beauty of nature. It didn’t take me long to get hooked...
The further you travel, the more you walk, the higher you climb.
Right at the start of the year, I vigorously tried to fill all the bank holiday weekends with a trip abroad. What a better way to go on vacation without taking annual leave from work. During my cheap flight search on skyscanner, Norway popped up in my top results. Stavanger? Never even heard of it! Quick, google search and straight to images. Shock! I didn’t expect to see such amazing pictures from a cheap flight destination. Mountains, fjords, and colourful streets? Sold, booked. Now, it was only a matter of time until I got on that plane and be on my way to Stavanger.
